United oxygen rules at a glance
Based on United Airlines’ published policy, reviewed October 2026.
NoticeIf you’ll use your POC in flight, tell United at least 48 hours ahead by calling 1-800-228-2744.
PaperworkBring a completed, printed copy of United’s portable oxygen concentrator form.
BatteriesBring batteries for 150% of your flight and connection time, plus the time you’ll spend at the airport. United’s example: a 3-hour flight with 2 hours at the airport needs 6.5 hours of battery.
AircraftPOCs can be used on every United flight but not every United Express aircraft — United will help put you on one that allows it.
PowerIn-seat power isn’t guaranteed. Package spare batteries so they can’t short circuit.
FeesYour POC flies free on United and United Express.
United doesn’t allow you to bring your own oxygen tanks — an FAA-approved portable concentrator is the way to fly. Policies can change, so always confirm with United Airlines before you fly. See United’s policy →
